The McKinney Bass Club held bass fishing tournaments back-to-back days at the beginning of July on Lake Bob Sandlin and Cypress Springs. Lake Bob Sandlin can be found on Big Cypress Creek 5 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant in Titus, Camp, and Franklin counties. Lake Cypress Springs also sits on Cypress Creek in the Cypress River Basin 15 miles northwest of Pittsburg in Franklin County. Since both lakes are about an hour and a half east of us, my fishing partner, Robert, and I decided we’d make a weekend trip of it and stayed with the club nearby.
Day 1 kicked off on Bob Sandlin and it was a little more challenging that we had hoped. But we still managed to scrape up a five bass limit for 11.42 lbs. That weight was enough to put us in 5th place overall for the tournament and gain some respectable points for AOY.
Day 2 on Cypress Springs went a little more to our liking even though the weights were roughly the same. We had a good bag for that day and weighed in another five fish limit for 11.21 lbs. That was enough to land us in second place for the tournament, as well as second overall in AOY.
Our next tournament on the schedule is set for Eagle Mountain Lake on July 25th. If you are interested in learning more about the club, you can visit their website here. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for more updates and new merch.
Keep on Rippin’!
